1). Provide an example of creativity from your own experience. How does it fit with the chapter's discussion of creativity?
Creativity is explained in the text as ways we do things that are considered new, different, helpful and ultimately shows your creativity skills. I believe that we have all experienced many ways of creativity without even knowing it. My own personal experience with creativity has to be when working with a group for a class project. This is a great way to explore not only your creativity but the others as well. I was assigned to a group project last semester for my business class. It's always scary to be assigned into groups because I think we all know how it feels when someone is left with all the work. In my case, I was lucky enough that everybody made a group effort into participating in all the work and create ideas to make the project more unique and appealing. Our professor had assigned an assignment where we were suppose to create a business and create a plan about the tasks, duties and work ethics that must be in place to create a successful business. As a group, we definitely practiced the concept of creativity because we went beyond the boundaries in order to make our project stand out from the others. Our group meetings consisted of us sitting around a table and listing our personal ideas and input of creative material that can be incorporated to the project. Because our professor had given us an example of a powerpoint project from the previous semester, we decided we wouldn't do that and create an actual scenario of the step-by-step process through acting. We also decided to make posters to help the rest of the class see what we were acting out and what "phase" we were in at each scene. "Creative ideas enhance and expand the possibilities of a product, a way of doing something, or a way of seeing things" (Sherblom, 162). This quote from the text was a perfect way to explain the way we approached this project. The actions we took through creativity fits in with the texts' explanation of how creativity works within a group setting. We definitely went out of the norm and thought of new ways to do this project and show students that there are more than ways to learn than just powerpoint, essays, etc. I strongly believe that all members of the group brought their own creativity skills to the table that ultimately helped us become a stronger group and also helped the project be more creative and unique.
Hey, Hope!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog. I really admire you and your group for deciding to be creative and try something new instead of following the norm. When we are given group assignments for class, I think it is very easy to follow the same path or mimic the examples of other groups that have done the same project. Having multiple classes and assignments can definitely be a barrier to creativity, and I've been part of groups where we just wanted to go through the motions because of that. This still resulted in a good grade, but our project ended up being pretty pedestrian compared to what it could have been if we took the time to be more creative.
